The spa town at the southern slope of the Slavkovský les Forest has a short but fascinating history. Its vertiginously quick rise and its generous building two hundred years ago fascinated all, including J. W. Goethe who regularly visited Western Bohemia. Many local patriots are even convinced that exactly the local building activities inspired the great poet to find catharsis for his Faust.
