In 1857, he established in Karlovy Vary his own engraving workshop and shop. In the first years, he used to buy in glassworks basic glass products and then decorated them, mainly by engraving, one of the most sophisticated glass techniques. It is done with the help of small rotating engraving wheels which, similarly as a pencil, engrave into the glass a milky white relief drawing.
